A 40-year-old Sterling Heights man died Tuesday after he was hit by a vehicle on Mound Road near 18 Mile.

According to police, the man was found by medical technicians lying on the pavement of southbound Mound Road south of 18 Mile. Bystanders reportedly had performed CPR on the man.

Witnesses told police the pedestrian was westbound in or near the crosswalk on the south side of 18 Mile and attempted to cross southbound Mound when he was hit by a Honda Civic traveling south. Traffic on Mound had a green traffic light.

The pedestrian was taken to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Alcohol may have been a factor with the pedestrian.

The driver of the Civic, a 33-year-old Shelby township man, was taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol, drugs or speed do not appear to be factors with the driver.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call the Sterling Heights Traffic Safety Bureau at (586) 446-2920.
