Lenox Township — A 23-year-old Richmond resident died Thursday evening in a rollover crash possibly caused by icy roads, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Ann Marie Semear was the passenger in a 2002 Ford Focus that crashed around 5:45 p.m. on 32 Mile near Havenridge, officials said. The car was driven by Semear’s best friend, another 23-year-old woman from Richmond, according to Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. The driver’s infant son was in the backseat.

According to preliminary reports, the driver was traveling westbound on 32 Mile when she lost control of the vehicle, veered across the eastbound lanes and into the south-side ditch, rolling the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved and all occupants were properly seat-belted, officials said.

Semear was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and her child were transported to McLaren Macomb for minor injuries and were released late Thursday.

An investigation into the crash continues, officials said. It remains unclear if alcohol or narcotics were factors, but road conditions may have contributed to the incident.

“There weren’t any obvious signs of alcohol so we don’t believe it was a factor, but it’s always a part of our investigation,” Wickersham said. “The first responders did indicate that conditions were icy.”

It remains unclear if charges will be filed against the driver.

“Any of our investigations where somebody has lost their life, we do a thorough investigation and if we have to, we’ll move forward with criminal charges,” Wickersham said. “But it’s too early to tell at this time.”
