A woman is dead after a Sunday night house fire in Armada Township, Michigan State Police said Monday.

The fire took place at a home on the 69600 block of Romeo Plank Road. First responders were dispatched about 11 p.m. Sunday after an off-duty Richmond firefighter driving past the home called it in.

When state troopers arrived, the home already was engulfed in flames, and two people were reported as unaccounted for. A man was found safe outside the home and transported to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Monday.

Once firefighters could enter the home, they found the body of a woman they believe lived in the home, and had been reported as missing by a family member who lives there, police said.

Armada firefighters and sheriff’s deputies from Macomb County assisted. Michigan State Police investigators are on the case, and Romeo Plan Road between 32 Mile and 33 Mile is still closed as of early Monday morning as the investigation continues.
