Mount Clemens — Former Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel will have to keep waiting if he wants to find out what it’s like to serve on a criminal jury.

Hackel, who has about 30 years of law enforcement experience, reported for jury duty on Thursday at the county courthouse in Mount Clemens. The Macomb Daily reports it was slow day at court, however, and Hackel was dismissed midday along with other jury pool members.

Hackel currently serves as Macomb County executive. He says: “It would be kind of neat to experience it but I think the chances of me getting on a jury are pretty slim.”

Hackel says he’d be “very fair and impartial.” He says he would be tough on police and prosecutors and make sure a defendant’s rights weren’t compromised.
