Roseville police look for robber who prefers Newports

Police are hoping to smoke out a convenience store robber who has an affinity for Newport 100s.

Roseville police say a man with a handgun walked into the Speedway gas station on the 20000 block of 13 Mile at about 8 a.m. Saturday and stole an unknown amount of cigarettes from a storage room.

The man had walked into the store earlier, police believe, to scope out where the cigarettes were stored. When he returned, he walked into the storage area without being seen and tried to conceal himself with storage boxes and a ladder, according to Deputy Chief Donald Glandon.

When an employee walked in on him, the man pulled out a gun and ordered the worker to put the cigarettes into a black garbage bag, police said. A second employee came into the room and also was ordered at gunpoint to put cigarettes into a bag. The second worker ran out of the room and yelled “gun.”

The suspect then grabbed one bag of cigarettes and ran north through the station’s parking lot. He is described as a black male, at least 35 years old, 5-feet, 6-inches tall and about 140 pounds. He was wearing a black knit cap, gray hoodie and gray sweat pants.

No one was injured in the incident.
