A 50-year-old woman died early Friday in a two-car collision on 17 Mile just west of Lancelot in Sterling Heights.

Sterling Heights police say the woman was driving a Kia Rio westbound on 17 Mile when a Ford Explorer traveling in the eastbound lanes crossed the center line and struck her vehicle at 12:01 a.m.

The Explorer was driven by an 18-year-old man who was hospitalized with nonlife threatening injuries. A 35-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Kia, was also transported to a hospital, police said.

The 50-year-old woman died instantly, police said.

Police say it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Seventeen Mile was shut down from about midnight to 3:45 a.m. following the crash.
