Two Warren police officers were injured Thursday afternoon after chasing two bank robbery suspects, officials said. The suspects were taken into custody.

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. in the north end of the city, police said. According to an alert, the chase began in the area of 11 Mile and Ryan and ended with a crash at Dequindre and 11 Mile.

Prior to the chase, around 12:50 p.m., two suspects robbed the Vibe Credit Union at 33950 Van Dyke, according to Sterling Heights Police.

A witness told police that the suspects got into an orange vehicle similar to a PT Cruiser and took off from the scene, said Capt. Dale Dwojakowski with Sterling Heights Police.

There were no injuries in the bank robbery, Dwojakowski said.

“Five minutes after the robbery Warren police were trying to stop an orange Chevy HHR that looks very similar to a PT Cruiser,” he said. “A pursuit started in Warren and ended with a collision by the (Interstate) 696 service drive near Dequindre.”

The officers were taken to a hospital, Warren police said. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

The two suspects were arrested. They face charges in both cities, Dwojakowski said.
