Officials: Man solicited sex from cop posing as child
A 55-year-old Romeo man was arraigned last week on charges after he allegedly solicited sex from a detective he believed was a boy, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.
Charles Edgar Keller was charged with four counts of child sexually abusive activity, a 20-year felony, and one count of computers — using to commit a crime.
According to officials, on June 29 a detective with the Macomb Area Computer Enforcement Team (MACE) responded to an advertisement posted on a popular website. During a two-day period, a suspect sent graphic messages and photographs to the detective in an effort to set up a sexual encounter.
Detectives determined the man was a 55-year-old Romeo man.
Keller was arrested around 2:30 p.m. June 30 after he allegedly drove to a location to engage in sexual activity with a child. The vehicle he was driving, a green Mini Cooper, was impounded.
Bond for Keller was set at $150,000 cash or surety during an video arraignment in 42-1 District Court Friday. He remains in Macomb County Jail. He is scheduled to return to court July 12.
