Lake St. Clair Metropark beach reopens

The beach at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township reopened Friday after a one-day closure due to elevated E. coli levels, according to Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority officials.

Results from water quality testing the Macomb County Health Department conducted Friday showed E. coli levels were well below acceptable levels for swimming beaches, said Paul Muelle, natural resource manager for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Authority.

The closure Thursday was the first for the beach this season, said George Phifer, authority director.

“We’ve had a really good year this year,” he said.

Beaches are also open at the other Metroparks in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties.
