The death of a man whose body was found during a fire at his home Wednesday morning has been ruled a suicide, officials said.

The man, identified as Mark Ross, had suffered a single gunshot wound to the neck, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said Wednesday.

Fouts said the gun used matched a small caliber semi-automatic handgun Ross borrowed from his brother.

The fire around 8:10 a.m. on the 21000 block of LaSalle was knocked down within 20 minutes, fire officials said.

Firefighters found a man, whom Warren Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams described as a senior citizen, lying on the floor. First responders administered CPR, but he died.

Fire officials found evidence of gasoline poured in multiple places in the home, Fouts said.

The man’s son had reported that his father was depressed and seemed despondent Tuesday night, Fouts said. After the man did not respond to a text message, the son told officials that he drove from Perrysburg, Ohio, to check on him.
