Warren wife killer convicted of murder
Mount Clemens — A man accused of strangling his wife and burying the body 220 miles away has been convicted of first-degree murder.
Macomb County prosecutors argued that Loyd Dejohn killed Kimberly Dejohn because he was in a relationship with a cousin about half his age. The body of the 51-year-old was found a few weeks later in Cheboygan County in 2014.
A jury convicted Dejohn on Thursday. He faces life in prison without a chance for parole.
Defense attorney Mark Nortley called it a heat-of-the-moment crime that didn’t add up to first-degree murder. He argued for manslaughter, saying Dejohn arrived at his Warren home and found that his wife had destroyed some collectibles.
Nortley says Dejohn simply panicked by not calling police and cleaning up the scene.
