Roseville boy, 14, playing Pokemon Go dies after being struck by motorcyclist
A 14-year-old Roseville boy playing Pokemon Go was killed Friday evening after being struck by an intoxicated motorcyclist, police said.
Ryan Mannes, a ninth-grader at Roseville High School, was out with two school friends playing Pokemon Go in the area of W. 11 Mile and Demerick on Friday, Roseville Police Chief James P. Berlin said in a statement on Saturday.
Berlin said that as the three were playing, Ryan entered the road in an attempt to “capture a Pokemon.” As he was returning to the sidewalk he was struck by a motorcycle driven by a 24-year-old Roseville man.
After striking Ryan, the motorcyclist lost control and crashed. As a result of the crash both the driver and his 26-year-old woman passenger suffered numerous non-life threatening injuries, the chief said in the statement. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the motorcycle was treated and released into the custody of the Roseville Police, the woman passenger has been admitted to the hospital in good condition.
Berlin said the motorcyclist had been drinking before the crash. Preliminary tests show the suspect had a blood alcohol content level of .14. He is being held on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
