Teen arraigned in disabled mother’s stabbing death
A 17-year-old girl was arraigned Wednesday afternoon for allegedly stabbing her disabled mother to death.
Delilah Sherwood Evans has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, according to the Clinton Township Police.
No bond was set during the arraignment in 41B District Court in Clinton Township. Evans is being tried as an adult and held at the Macomb County Jail.
The body of Sonia Riang, 45, was found around 9:55 p.m. Sunday in her home at the Washington Place apartments on Washington Square, officials said.
Evans was apprehended early Monday and later charged with her mother’s death.
Police said Riang, who used a wheelchair, hadn’t been seen since noon Sunday. She died from a fatal stabbing, officials said.
Police had been called to the apartment three other times for family trouble involving Evans, said Clinton Township Police Capt. Richard Maierle.
In October, Evans was accused of stabbing her brother, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries, Maierle said. He never showed up to court.
Evans is scheduled to return to court Jan. 11 for a probable cause conference.
