A 3-year-old boy mauled early Friday by a family pit bull remains in serious condition following an attack that injured two others and led police to kill the dog.

Warren Police Chief Jere Green said the boy’s 47-year-old grandmother and his mother were also mauled on the arms by the dog as they tried to intervene. The incident took place around 11 a.m. in the 21000 block of Logue Avenue.

“The grandmother and the mom are fine,” Green said, adding the dog also went after responding officers, who then put the dog down. “I have no idea why the dog attacked the kid. But you can’t blame the kid.”

All three were transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and the boy is being treated for severe injuries to his face, Green said.
