Warren — A 34-year-old Oak Park woman was fatally shot early Friday in front of a home in a condominium complex in Warren, according to police.

Warren officers were called around 7:30 a.m. to the 30000 block of Berghway Trail, where they found the woman lying next to her 2016 Ford Fusion. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her torso, police said.

Fire officials rushed her to St. John Oakland Hospital and she was pronounced dead around 8 a.m.

A witness to the shooting reported that a suspect fled on foot. Patrol units and a Troy Police K-9 canvassed the area but were unable to locate a subject.

On Friday morning, police had blocked off a section of the street with caution tape while they investigated and sent out K-9 dogs. They appeared to be focusing on a home with a white pickup parked in the driveway.

The complex, Stoneridge at Heritage Village, is newly built with ongoing construction throughout the neighborhood. Residents near the scene knew little about the incident or who the woman might have been visiting.

Kristi Tice, who lives around the corner from where the shooting took place, said the neighborhood is usually peaceful and neighbors are friendly. Tice said she was concerned that the suspect was still at-large, but felt comforted by the increased police presence on her street.

"I feel horrible," Tice said. "I was thinking this is a 34-year-old woman who had the rest of her life ahead of her."

No further details were available about the ongoing investigation.
