A 26-year-old Roseville man, accused of shooting an intruder in his detached garage on Sunday night, is still in police custody as police and the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office decide what charges, if any, are appropriate, Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said Tuesday morning.

The homeowner heard a disturbance in his detached garage on the 26000 block of Chippendale — north of 10 Mile, east of Kelly — around 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Berlin said. He told his wife to call 911, grabbed a handgun and went out to investigate.

While he was out there, the homeowner found someone inside the garage and police say he fired one shot, which hit the man. He died hours later, about 3 a.m. Monday, at an area hospital. Police have recovered the handgun.

Police say the slain man was 35, but do not yet have his city of residency. There is no indication that the two men knew each other, Berlin said.
