Roseville police: Teen accidentally shoots self in leg
A 15-year-old Westland teen is recovering after shooting himself in the thigh Monday, Roseville Police said.
"It appears to be an accidental shooting," Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said. "He had surgery to repair some damage to his leg. He'll have some recovery and rehab after that, but he should make a full recovery."
The incident happened early Monday in a home in the 26000 block of Pattow Street near Frazho and Interstate 94, according to police.
The teen and his friends found a .32-caliber gun in a parking lot near the home, Berlin said. He said the victim was playing with the gun when it discharged, striking him in the thigh.
Berlin said police do not who owns the gun and has requested the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to search its records to find the weapon's owner.
"We just want to find out who owns the gun and why they didn't know it was missing," Berlin said. "It's not listed as being stolen."
