Body found in St. Clair Shores canal, police investigate

St. Clair Shores — Police said a body of a man was found in a Lake St. Clair canal Friday morning.

Police said the body of a man was found in a canal at Lake Front Park in St. Clair Shores Friday morning.


Police said they received a call at about 8:19 a.m. Friday from a worker at Lake Front Park, 23000 Jefferson Avenue. The worker told police he located a body in a canal.

Officers and emergency medical technicians responded and verified a male found in the water was deceased, according to authorities.

Police said the man is a 66-year-old St. Clair Shores resident who was reported missing by family members at 8:25 p.m. Thursday.

Staff from the Macomb County Medical Examiner's Office were called to the scene and conducted a preliminary examination of the body.

Officials said there doesn't appear to be any signs of foul play.

The department continues to investigate, officials said in a statement.

Even though located in St. Clair Shores, Lake Front Park is a municipal park for residents of nearby Grosse Pointe Woods. It comprises 55 acres on the shores of Lake St. Clair and is Grosse Pointe Woods' largest municipal park.

The city acquired the land for the park from Eleanor Clay Ford in 1948

Grosse Pointe Woods pays $100,000 to St. Clair Shores for police, fire and emergency services at park each year.
