A Macomb County teen was sentenced to life behind bars Thursday for the brutal murder of her disabled mother.

Delilah Sherwood Evans will spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole for the stabbing death of her mother, 45-year-old Sonia Riang. The mother, who used a wheelchair, was found dead Christmas Day in 2016 with 120 stab wounds in the family’s Clinton Township apartment at the Washington Place complex on Washington Square.

Police said they had been called to the apartment three other times before for family trouble involving the then 17-year-old Evans, according to Clinton Township Capt. Richard Maierle.

A jury found Evans guilty but mentally ill in connection with her mom’s killing. She was sentenced by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Richard Caretti.

The teen allegedly stabbed her brother, which resulted in non-life threatening injuries, two months before her mother was killed. The brother never showed up for court for the incident, authorities said.
