Utica police continue to investigate a stabbing Thursday morning, officials said.

Police said Thursday in a statement that the incident happened at about 3 a.m. in the Encore Townhouse complex on Jenny Court near Hall Road and M-53.

Officers received a 911 call from the victim, who told police he had been stabbed and needed medical care, according to authorities.

He was hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

Maranda Officer, who lives a couple of doors down from where the scene of the stabbing, said she learned about it while watching the morning TV news.

“I saw my apartment was on the news and thought, ‘Oh my God, what happened?’”

Officer said the news was shocking.

“It’s so quiet out here and everyone is so nice,” she said. “I was backing out of my garage and saw yellow tape and was thinking, ‘It’s so sad.'”

Officer said she doesn’t know the victim and had only seen him in passing.

She said she moved into the area in September, and Thursday’s incident hasn’t made her regret the decision.

“As far as I know, it’s a nice place. People stay to themselves and they’re friendly.”

On Friday, Crime Stoppers of Michigan said it is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest of a suspect in the stabbing.

It also said the stabbing happened at about 2:51 a.m. when an African-American male entered the garage of the victim's townhouse to commit a theft.

The home's owner confronted the man who then stabbed him, according to Crime Stoppers.

The group also said the victim is in serious condition after undergoing surgery for his wounds.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the stabbing should call Utica Police at (586)731-2345.
