Low wire burns 10 vehicles at Warren car lot

Amid the rain and sleet during a weekend ice storm, 10 cars burned in Warren, the result of the weather.

Heavy winds coupled with ice accumulation caused a power line to droop at a used car dealership Sunday at Dequindre and 12 Mile Road, said Mayor Jim Fouts. The wire struck the cars, which started a fire that destroyed the vehicles.

The fire also snarled traffic at the intersection, which is one of the busier ones in Warren.

It was one of 50 downed wires in the city, the mayor wrote on his Facebook page.

“We will be on this as long as is needed,” Fouts wrote about weather-related problems in the city.
