Police: Warren woman lived with body 'several months'
Police are questioning a 62-year-old woman who authorities said was living with a man who had been dead for several months.
The 68-year-old Warren man, George Curtis, was found dead at his home Monday morning when police conducted a welfare check at the request of his family, police said.
Curtis, police believe, had been dead for several months by the time police arrived at the home, on Burgundy Avenue, about 10 a.m. Monday morning, said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer. Curtis was found in a bedroom, lying in a bed, Dwyer said.
Thought it "appears it could be a natural death," Dwyer said, the Macomb County Medical Examiner will ultimately determine Curtis' cause and manner of death.
The 62-year-old woman who lived in the home with Curtis was taken to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Dwyer said Tuesday that police would seek an emergency petition to keep the woman under a doctor's care.
There is a "possibility" the woman could be arrested, if the emergency petition fails, for failure to report a dead body, Dwyer said.
Police are also seeking to have the home condemned.
