Shelby Township police are looking for a man who tried to kick in a church door April 24, 2018.

The Shelby Township Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying a man caught on videotape kicking and aggressively trying to pull open a locked church door early Tuesday morning.

The incident took place about 4 a.m. Tuesday at Mammoth Baptist Church on the 2600 block of Auburn Road, east of Dequindre. The 49-second video shows the suspect, a mustached white male wearing a multi-colored hoodie, kicking the door several times before walking away.

Then he returns and tried to pull the doors open. Then he leaves again.

Township Deputy Police Chief Mark Coil said Monday the suspect was ultimately able to gain entry into the church. On the video, he is seen trying to enter a back door.

Police ask that anyone with information on the case call Det. Johnson at (586) 731-2121, extension 348.
