Authorities have authorized charges against a 34-year-old Casco Township man accused of placing a camera in the women's changing room of a Clinton Township gym, officials said.

Clinton Township Police Capt. Richard Maierle said the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office authorized an arrest warrant for the man. He said the man is accused of capturing/distributing images of an unclothed person, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Maierle said the suspect, who works at the gym, has been cooperative with police and has agreed to turn himself in at a later date.

Clinton Township police received a complaint from a woman about an incident that happened at about noon on April 12 at the Switch CrossFit gym on Morelli Drive near Groesbeck Highway and Hall Road, the captain said.

The victim had been working out at the gym and was in the women's changing room when she noticed a camera being retracted through a ceiling tile in the corner of the room, he said. The tile had a hole cut through it, according to police.

Maierle said the victim is a law enforcement officer but does not work for the Clinton Township Police Department.
