Macomb County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a crash Monday in Bruce Township that claimed the life of a 35-year-old Bad Axe man, officials said.

Deputies responded to reports about the crash at about 5:05 p.m. on Van Dyke south of 36 Mile Road, they said.

A preliminary investigation shows a black 2009 Chevrolet pick-up traveling north on Van Dyke and a maroon 2009 Chevrolet HHR heading south crashed head on.

Police said the pick up driver is a 50-year-old Attica man and the HHR was driven by the Bad Axe man. There was also a passenger in the car, a 23-year-old Bad Axe woman.

The HHR's driver, who has been identified as Jerome Kladzyk, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said the pick up's driver was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police said the car's female passenger is listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

They also said it doesn't appear drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash and all of the vehicles' occupants were wearing seat belts.
