Macomb coach charged with sexually texting girl
A Macomb County softball coach was charged Tuesday with sending inappropriate sexual messages to 15-year-old player.
Jared Harris, 23, was charged by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office with accosting a child for immoral purposes, a four-year felony, and using a computer to commit a crime, a 10-year felony. He was arraigned in 41-B Clinton Township District Court and given a $100,000 bond.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office opened the case on May 12, when the 15-year-old female player reported she had been part of a team group chat on a social media with Harris. Authorities said Harris began private-messaging the female about one month ago, making sexual comments and sending photographs of himself.
While investigating, detectives found several social media accounts linked to Harris.
Harris was removed from coaching at Anchor Bay High School in Ira Township where he coached JV softball. He is also employed as a coach for the HITZ travel softball organization based in Chesterfield Township, according to the sheriff's office.
Upon posing bond, Harris is to be released on house arrest with a tether, no use ofIinternet or computer and to have no contact with minors. He is scheduled to be back in court at 8: 30 a.m. June 11 for a probable cause conference.
