A 50-year-old Macomb Township man was badly shocked while he was painting on a ladder at a Sterling Heights business, public safety officials said.

Police and firefighters received a call at about 11:10 a.m. Tuesday that a man at a business in the 6500 block of Simms Drive near 18 Mile and Mound had been shocked, they said.

Firefighters arrived and found the man unresponsive and on the ground, according to authorities.

Witnesses told officials the man was painting when his ladder came in contact with high-voltage electrical wires.

Officials said the man was severely injured by the electrical current and fell about 20 feet to the ground.

He was treated at the scene and then taken to a nearby hospital.

Police said they do not have an update on the man's condition and the investigation is ongoing.
