Shelby Township police arrested a man in a recent break-in.

Officers called to a car break-in near 24 Mile and Dequindre early Wednesday spotted Geoffrey Housewright and another person fleeing the scene with flashlights, investigators said in a statement.

With help from a K-9 unit, they found the 23-year-old about a mile away and tried to arrest him, but he "resisted and attempted to disarm a police officer," the release said.

The Macomb Auto Theft Squad is following up on tips involving other thefts in the township and nearby communities following the arrest. Any witnesses or victims are asked to call detectives at (586) 307-8236.

Housewright was arraigned Thursday in 41-A District Court on a charge of receiving/concealing stolen property. Other charges are pending, county officials said.

A court hearing is scheduled for July 12.
