Sterling Heights — A body that had been in the Clinton River for at least 45 hours was discovered earlier today by a person in a kayak.

The body hasn't been positively identified, said police. The cause of death is unknown.

It was the second sighting of the body in two days, said police.

Another person in a kayak had spotted the body in the river Saturday afternoon and called 911. The person lost sight of the body before fire officials arrived, and their search failed to find the body before the recovery ended Sunday.

At 1:30 p.m. Monday, another person spotted the body in the river near the 39000 block of Utica Road, said police.

The description of the body matched the description given by the witness on Saturday, said police.

The body was turned over to the Macomb County Medical Examiner.

The Sterling Heights Police Department is investigating the death.
