A 34-year-old Clinton Township man was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday and police are looking for the white vehicle believed to be involved.

The crash took place just before 12:25 a.m. on southbound Gratiot near Wellington Crescent, which is south of the Clinton River.

The victim was walking from the west side of the road to the east when the white truck hit him on its passenger side, police said. The crash broke off the truck's passenger side mirror.

But the driver did not stop after the crash, entering a car wash before fleeing northbound on Gratiot. A witness who heard the crash called 911 and alerted authorities.

Clinton Township police describe the area of the crash as poorly lit, and can't be certain yet whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Police are asking that anyone with information on the driver's identity or whereabouts call Sgt. Chris Allis at (586) 615-2525.
