A man wanted in a July 4 fatal shooting was arrested Saturday just outside of Chicago, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office reports.

Suspect Perry Bernard Rouse Jr. was found and taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal Service at a Motel 6 in Harvey, Illinois on Saturday. He will be held by the Chicago Police Department until his extradition to Macomb County.

A 24-year-old man was killed and a 26-year-old woman was hit by gunfire at a Fourth of July party early Thursday in Mount Clemens.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the double shooting took place about 12:20 a.m. in the area of Court and Clemens, which is north of North River Road and east of Gratiot. Wickersham said deputies were at the location within two minutes and located no victims.

Police arrived to the party to learn that two people had been shot and already transported to a hospital.

One of them, Charles McGowan, of Clinton Township, died from a gunshot to the stomach, Wickersham said. The woman, who was transported to the hospital by a boyfriend, is still being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. She is also a township resident.

Wickersham said the victims were acquainted with one another and were attending a block party at the Court and Clemens Street location. McGowan was wounded while standing in the street and the woman, who was not named, was inside a vehicle.

Seventeen spent casings, from three different caliber weapons, were found at the scene and a vehicle has been located and is being processed, police said. Three people of interest, not named by police, are being sought and one is believed to have a past history with McGowan.

Extra patrols are being put in the area and it is believed several people at the party witnessed the shooting but have not come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's detective bureau at (586) 307-9358 or Crime Stoppers.

The double shooting in Mount Clemens happened about the same time as a triple shooting at a Fourth of July block party on Detroit's east side, which wounded two teenagers.
