Arrest made in Sterling Heights fatal domestic dispute
Sterling Heights police arrested one person in connection with the death of a woman Tuesday at an apartment complex.
Officers responded to a unit at Lakeside Terraces in the 44000 block of Pine Drive about 3:30 p.m. after a 911 to report "family trouble" there, police said in a statement.
A male believed to be involved in the incident approached them at the scene, according to the release. The officers then found a 41-year-old woman dead inside.
The male at the scene, whose age and name have not been released, was taken into custody.
Authorities are not describing the relationship between him and the victim, pending notification of next of kin, said police Lt. Mario Bastianelli.
It was not yet known if police had been called to the home in the past, Bastianelli added.
Apartment staffers referred questions to the property management company.
"... We will cooperate with authorities in any manner needed," said Sarah Oglesby-Battle, executive vice president, management division, at Beztak Properties. "Our thoughts are prayers are with the victim’s family."
Hours after the arrest, investigators remained at the scene, combing a two-story beige building while blocking the surrounding street with yellow police tape. Several neighbors watched nearby.
One resident who has lived in the complex near Lakeside Mall for about five years rushed there soon after learning about the slaying from his son. The news stunned him since the area is generally quiet and he has only heard about car break-ins there.
"It's beautiful out here," said the man, who would not give his name. "I was shocked."
Sterling Heights police are asking anyone with information on the slaying to call (586) 446-2825.
