Washington Twp. man charged in assault on girlfriend
A Washington Township man has been charged for beating and attempting to kill his girlfriend Sunday night, police said.
Paul Bashi, 35, was charged Tuesday with assault with intent to murder and delivery of a controlled substance, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. The assault charge is a felony punishable by up to life in prison.
A district court judge ordered him held on a $5 million bond and scheduled his next court appearance for Aug. 14.
Police said they were called to a home on Cathey Avenue near Van Dyke and 27 Mile in Washington Township at about 7 p.m. Sunday. Investigators said Bashi and the victim both live at the home where the attack happened.
Deputies arrived and found a woman lying on the home's porch, according to authorities. The woman was bleeding from multiple puncture wounds on her head and the right side of her body.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she is listed in stable condition, police said.
Deputies searched the area and found Bashi walking on a nearby street. He had what appeared to be blood on him and deputies took him into custody, police said.
Police checked the home as part of their investigation and found a human growth hormone called Jintropin.
