A four-year-old girl is safe after the van she was in was stolen Monday morning in Clinton Township, police said.

The incident happened at about 7 a.m. on McKishnie Street, which is between 14 Mile and 15 Mile west of Gratiot Avenue, said Clinton Township Police Lt. Eric Reincke.

Officers continue to search for the van, a red 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan with the license plate number DNU 1455, and the suspect who stole it, he said. The van has some damage on its bumper near the license plate.

The girl's mother was picking up the child from her grandmother's house on McKishnie Street and left the vehicle unlocked and running with the girl inside it, Reincke said.

The woman then saw her van being driven away, he said. She tried to pursue the vehicle but couldn't keep up with it.

Police found an abandoned bicycle at the scene and suspect it was used by whoever stole the van, according to officials.

Shortly after, the girl who was inside the van was found walking around a business' parking lot near Gratiot and 14 Mile, Reincke said. He also said the girl appears to be unharmed.

Anyone who spots the van should report it to their local police department, Reincke said.
