Selfridge Air National Guard Base's neighbors may see more planes than usual flying over the area.

Officials for the base said Wednesday the facility in Harrison Township is preparing to receive numerous aircraft as military installations across Florida's Panhandle evacuate ahead of Hurricane Michael's landfall.

The incoming aircraft may remain at the base until evacuation orders are lifted, they said.

Selfirdge is located near Interstate 94 and M-59 in Macomb County. The base houses units of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard as well as Customs & Border Protection. The 127th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard is the base's host unit.

Nearly 3,000 full-time civilian and military personnel work at the base, in addition to about 3,000 members of the Air and Army National Guard and U.S. Armed Forces reserve units.
