Chesterfield Twp. — Police in Chesterfield Township are investigating a crash that left a 44-year-old male cyclist dead Tuesday night.

The incident took place just before 9 p.m. at Jefferson and Cotton, which is near Anchor Bay.

Police say that after the cyclist was hit by a vehicle, medics transported him to McLaren Macomb, but he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle is identified only as a 17-year-old girl. Police did not indicate the type of vehicle and said it's too early to tell if drugs, alcohol or speed played a role in the collision.

The driver told police that she was headed northbound on Jefferson and didn't see anyone in the road until it was too late to stop.
