A construction worker was injured Wednesday afternoon in Sterling Heights after a colleague accidentally ran him over, police said.

Fire officials rushed the man to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

The 62-year-old had been checking a storm drain at a project site in an Aldi's parking lot on Van Dyke at about 3 p.m. when another construction worker backed out of a parking space, investigators said in a statement.

Fire officials rushed the worker to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for treatment of head and upper body injuries, according to the release. He was listed in serious condition late Wednesday.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
