Mount Clemens — A 26-year-old Mount Clemens man was fatally shot late Sunday night during a home invasion allegedly carried out by his girlfriend's former love interest, police said.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office responded to Court Street about 11:55 p.m. after getting a 911 call on a home invasion.

The caller, a woman, told police that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home through a side door, entered the bedroom and shot the victim, Jovon Houston, who was in bed.

Police say the suspect shot the victim multiple times with a shotgun, and bludgeoned his face, shoulder and leg with the gun before fleeing the scene.

Medics took the victim to a hospital, but he died.

Police arrested the suspect in Clinton Township. He's lodged at the Macomb County Jail, pending charges.

The sheriff's office asks anyone with information on the incident to call investigators and share what they know at 586-783-8118.
