Man charged in Mt. Clemens shooting of ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend
Mount Clemens — A Clinton Township man has been charged in the Sunday slaying of his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, officials said.
Dominic Watson, 34, was arraigned Tuesday in 41-B District Court in Clinton Township on charges of first-degree murder, felony murder, three counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony, first-degree home invasion and assault with a dangerous weapon. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
A magistrate ordered Watson held without bond and scheduled his next court date for Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Authorities accuse Watson of breaking into a Mount Clemens home and killing a 26-year-old man.
Macomb County Sheriff's deputies were called at about 11:55 p.m. Sunday to a home on Court Street in response to a report of a home invasion, officials said. Court Street is located near Gratiot Avenue and North River Road.
The caller, a woman, told deputies her ex-boyfriend had broken into the home through a side door, entered the bedroom and shot her current boyfriend, Jovon Houston, who was in bed, according to authorities. Houston was shot multiple times and was struck in the face, the arm and left leg.
The woman was not injured.
The suspect then fled the scene. Medics took the victim to a hospital where he died.
Police were able to locate the suspect who was walking on foot near his home in Clinton Township, officials said.
Detectives continue to investigate the shooting and ask anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at (586) 783-8118.
