2 charged with stealing sweatpants from Eastpointe shoe store

Eastpointe — Authorities have charged two of three young men accused of stealing more than $1,700 worth of sweatpants from a store last month.

Nayati Jones, 19, has been charged with first-degree retail fraud in connection with the Aug. 4 theft from a Foot Locker store on Eight Mile near Kelly Road. The crime is a felony and carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.


A judge ordered Jones held on a $25,000 bond and scheduled his next court date for Oct. 9

Another suspect in the heist, Javaun Deshun Knott, 17, has been charged with second-degree retail fraud. The crime is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in prison. He was also charged with assault and battery, a 93-day misdemeanor.

A judge ordered Knott held on a $35,000 bond and also scheduled his next court date for Oct. 9.

Both were arraigned last week, police said Wednesday.

Authorities said a third suspect accused in the theft, Jaemi Meeks, 20, is still at large.


According to police, three men at about 12:45 p.m. grabbed Nike Air Jordan sweatpants from a display inside the store and ran out the door. The pants were black, pink and green or black and red.

A security guard at the store tried to stop the trio, but was assaulted. The three then fled in a 2003 blue Chevrolet Trailblazer.
