Sterling Heights — Authorities are investigating a condo fire that killed a 60-year-old man Wednesday.

Sterling Heights firefighters were called at about 6:30 a.m. to a condo unit in the 5600 block of Victory Lane near 17 Mile and Mound to respond to a 911 call from a resident who said he smelled smoke, according to officials.

Crews went to the unit next door and found the windows were hot and blackened by smoke. They entered the unit and saw several places where a fire had burned holes in the floor, they said.

Firefighters went into a bedroom and found a man's body.

Officials said there is no evidence of foul play. However, they said none of the home's smoke detectors was functioning.
