A tornado hit Lenox Township Wednesday afternoon damaging several homes and barns, official said.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 tornado briefly swept through the northern Macomb County community during an isolated thunderstorm around 3 p.m. An EF0 tornado is the mildest kind, reaching speeds of 75 miles per hour, said Bryan Tilley, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.

“We had reports from spotters and public it produced a funnel cloud,” Tilley said. “Local fire officials reported to us it touched down briefly and produced some damage.”

Four homes were damaged on 30 Mile west of Place Road, said Lenox Township assistant chief Martin Hartway. Three other buildings, including barns, were damaged south of 30 Mile Road., he said. Most of the damage was mild to moderate. One barn lost part of its roof and sides, officials said. No injuries were reported.

“One pole barn has some pretty heavy damage done to it,” he said. “A camper and motor home also tipped over. There was a lot of tree damage.”
