Detroit – — Authorities nabbed a man accused of stealing from an EMS worker who was treating a woman Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The emergency medical technician was treating a woman who was with the 51-year-old suspect about 3:30 p.m. at Gratiot and Crane on the city’s east side. While the EMT was working, the suspect “took personal property from the inside of the EMS truck,” said Sgt. Eren Stephens of the Detroit Police Department.

After learning his property was missing, the worker approached the suspect, who tried to flee, Stephens said. The man assaulted the worker when he tried to stop him, she said.

Homeland Security officials were in the area and detained the suspect in the 5800 block of Rohns, Stephens said. The stolen item was recovered and the suspect was released to city police, she said.

Other details weren’t released Tuesday night.
