— The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a 19-year-old man who disappeared in the St. Clair River during the annual Float Down event on the U.S.-Canada border waterway.

Chief Petty Officer Gabriel Settel said late Monday it’s a difficult decision but the Coast Guard and its partners “have exhausted all available resources.”

Brady Morton of Fenton was among the participants in Sunday’s event. Petty Officer Christopher Yaw says people saw Morton leave his flotation device and disappear under the surface. A Coast Guard helicopter and boats from several agencies were involved in the search.

People in tubes and rafts entered the U.S.-Canada border river Sunday at Lighthouse Beach in Port Huron. They exited at Chrysler Beach in Marysville.
