Owl found near western Mich. highway dies after rescue
Norton Shores, Mich. — Wildlife workers say a great horned owl found critically hurt along U.S. 31 in western Michigan has been put to death.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports Friday that the owl had severe spinal trauma. Susan Stamy of the Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center in Muskegon County’s Twin Lake said there was no choice but to “give that bird an easy death.”
A passerby reported seeing the owl on the ground Wednesday in Norton Shores. Stamy says it appeared the bird had been on the ground for a while before being rescued.
