Brothers face key hearing in 1989 Michigan slaying
White Cloud — Two brothers face a key court hearing in the death of a young western Michigan woman who disappeared in 1989.
The body of 18-year-old Shannon Siders was discovered by a hunter in the Manistee National Forest three months after her disappearance. Forty-four-year-old Matthew Jones of Grant and 42-year-old Paul Jones of Newaygo are charged with first-degree murder in Newaygo County.
They are scheduled to appear in White Cloud district court on Wednesday for a probable-cause hearing.
Paul Jones’ lawyer, Paul Stablein, says he looks “forward to vigorously defending these false allegations.” A message seeking comment was left with an attorney representing Matthew Jones.
The case was given more attention by state and local investigators starting in 2011.
Siders lived in Newaygo, 35 miles north of Grand Rapids.
