Man surrenders after standoff
Goodland Township — Authorities say a 38-year-old man has surrendered after firing a gun into the air several times during a standoff with officers in Lapeer County.
The sheriff’s department says it responded about 3 a.m. Friday following a report that the man may have wanted to harm himself at a home in Goodland Township, about 45 miles north of Detroit.
Deputies communicated with the man and got him to surrender within an hour. The man had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg, but the sheriff’s department says it wasn’t considered life-threatening. No officers were injured during the standoff.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
