A 5-year-old Superior Township girl is in critical condition Saturday after being hit by a car while crossing the street Friday night.

The girl, whom police are not identifying, was crossing Geddys Avenue near Onondaga Street in Ann Arbor at around 7:45 p.m., police say. The girl was with her family visiting a friend’s house. They were leaving and crossing the street to their vehicle when the girl ran ahead of the family.

The car on one side of the street stopped, but the car on the other side of the street didn’t see her, police say.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old Ypsilanti woman, stopped at the scene.

The girl was taken to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition.
