Cheboygan — The Cheboygan city council has voted to fire its city manager without disclosing a cause.

The council voted 6-0 to terminate Dale Stuart during a special meeting Monday, with one member absent. It didn’t publicly discuss the vote and Mayor Rich Sangster denied an audience member’s request to speak on Stuart’s behalf.

Stuart had served as Cheboygan city manager since March 2011.

Sangster didn’t give a specific reason for the firing but said the council is “looking for a different fit.” City leaders tell WPBN-TV there isn’t a criminal investigation.

Stuart didn’t return a call for comment from the Cheboygan Daily Tribune. His yearly contract was scheduled for renewal in June 2015.

The city has 30 days to appoint an interim manager.
