Ellsworth, Wis. — Authorities said a small plane that went missing Friday has been found in a Pierce County farm field.

The pilot, Richard Schweitzer, 73, of Watersmeet, Michigan, was found dead at the scene. He was the only person on board the single engine Cessna.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said the plane was found Saturday evening after it was spotted by the Civil Air Patrol.

The sheriff’s office said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation and Safety Board are investigating.
